Concreters in Croydon, 3136
Residential concreting for Croydon homes, covering the driveway at the front, the slab out the back, the paths between and the failed surfaces that have to come out first. The work runs from the postwar weatherboards and brick veneers on the generous blocks around Croydon Town Park to the townhouses filling in around Main Street and the station, all of it over corrected, compacted ground with steel in every pour and a single written quote.
Ground conditions in Croydon
Croydon sits on clay soils weathered from the mudstone of the foothills, reactive enough to swell through a wet winter and shrink over a dry summer. Add half-century-old street trees working their roots under paths and driveways and you have the two forces that cracked most of the suburb’s original concrete. Base preparation and drainage, not extra concrete, are what deal with both.
The jobs Croydon gives us
Croydon’s blocks are big by modern standards and most of the housing stock dates to the postwar decades, so replacement leads: original driveways that have cracked and dropped at the crossover, side paths lifted by roots, shed slabs poured thin decades ago. Alongside that, the suburb’s steady run of renovations and extensions finishes with concreting, from alfresco slabs off new living areas to second crossovers where a corner block allows one and the council’s frontage rules are met.
Finishes specified in Croydon
Exposed aggregate leads on street-facing driveways, in mid grey and charcoal stone that sits well against clay brick and the suburb’s tree-lined streets. Oxide coloured concrete in charcoal is the pick for modern extensions, and broom finished plain grey does the side runs, shed slabs and back-of-block work economically.
Concreting cost in Croydon
The published Maroondah card applies here as it does everywhere we pour: driveways $95 to $185 per m2 by finish, paths $90 to $130, patios $100 to $180 and shed or garage slabs $110 to $150, with exposed aggregate crowning each range and removal adding $35 per m2 where something old comes out. Treat every rate as a guide until the block is measured; the quote written after the site measure holds. The drivers behind the numbers live in the cost guide, and the construction behind them in the specification.
Maroondah City Council permits
Maroondah City Council requires written consent and a vehicle crossing permit before a crossover, the section between your property boundary and the road, is built, widened, relocated or reconstructed. Applications go through the council’s online eServices portal; consent applications are assessed in around ten business days and the permit itself is typically issued within two, valid for three months. Residential crossings are built to the council’s standard drawing MCC-501, between 3.0 and 4.0 metres wide, and generally one crossing is permitted per property unless the frontage exceeds 20 metres. Clearances apply from pits, poles, street trees and other assets in the nature strip. Council inspects the work twice: a pre-pour inspection, booked with at least 24 hours’ notice, before any concrete is poured, and a final inspection on completion. Council charges a permit fee that moves from year to year; the current figure goes into your quote, along with written confirmation of exactly what your job requires before anything is booked. The whole process, widths, inspections and timeframes included, is walked through in our Maroondah concreting permit guide.
